Chapter 575 Welcome Back to the Psychiatry Department
Chapter 575 Welcome Back to the Psychiatry Department
The two left the administration building one after the other and walked along the bluestone path towards the rehabilitation garden.
The evening sunlight slanted across the garden, reflecting a shimmering golden glow in the fountain pool.
Small groups of recovered patients were scattered among the lawn and benches; some were feeding pigeons with their heads down, while others were muttering to themselves.
But the moment Lin Feng stepped into the garden, he stopped in his tracks.
That thing is still there.
Beside the fountain, a hunched figure, almost folded in half, was squatting by the pool, his translucent fingers idly stirring the water.
It heard footsteps and twisted its neck at a completely unnatural angle.
Its face had no features, only a mouth that stretched across the entire surface of its face, its lips opening and closing, revealing layers of teeth that gleamed coldly in the twilight.
"...It's happening again." It forced out a muffled breath. "I can smell that scent again..."
As it spoke, it propped itself up from the edge of the pool, its joints twisting outwards, its whole body resembling a spider that had been flattened and then inflated again.
"A soul... such a fragrant soul..."
It grinned, its teeth curling outwards layer by layer, and saliva dripped from between its teeth, hissing and rising in wisps of smoke as it landed on the stone slab.
The next second, it pushed off with all four limbs and its whole body shot out, crawling quickly towards Lin Feng along the ground, even faster than it had been that afternoon.
Lin Feng frowned slightly, just as he was about to use Wild Call again, but Su Wan beside him moved first.
She raised her hand, her five fingers spread wide, and a thick mass of black energy suddenly condensed in her palm.
The wisp of black energy spun in her palm for a moment before she casually sent it forward.
The black mist slammed into that eerie chest, producing a dull "bang".
Then the gaunt figure flew backward like a kite with a broken string, gliding through the air for a good ten meters along the central axis of the garden, and crashed straight into the canopy of the old sycamore trees on the east side of the rehabilitation garden. Its limbs were stuck between the intertwined branches and it could not move, groaning and moaning incoherently.
The commotion startled several patients who were strolling in the garden. They turned to look, but their eyes were vacant. After a couple of glances, they turned back to their blank stares, as if they had only just witnessed a leaf blown down by the wind.
Su Wan withdrew her hand and dusted off non-existent dust from her fingertips: "Let's go, don't waste time."
Lin Feng glanced at the strange creature still writhing futilely in the tree branch, then at Su Wan, whose expression remained unchanged. He silently raised his wife's combat power rating by one level in his mind, and then quickly followed in her footsteps.
The two passed through the back door of the rehabilitation garden and turned into the psychiatric ward building along the connecting corridor.
The lobby was filled with the strong smell of disinfectant, and the incandescent light bulbs hummed, casting a stark white light on the corridor.
The attending physician behind the desk was looking down at the medical records. Hearing footsteps, he looked up, his eyes behind his glasses scanning back and forth between Lin Feng and Su Wan, revealing a slightly questioning expression.
"Section Chief Su?" The on-duty doctor put down the medical record. "Why are you... with one of our patients?"
"Dr. Xue, I've brought the person back to you." Su Wan stepped forward, her voice gentle.
"This afternoon I needed to hand-draw a few sketches of patients' facial features for file comparison. I heard that Lin Feng could draw, so I temporarily lent him my help."
"I left in a hurry and didn't have time to say goodbye."
"The work is finished, and I'm returning it as is. Could you please be lenient and not give me a penalty?"
Dr. Xue adjusted his glasses and nodded:
"Since it was Section Chief Su's arrangement, I won't pursue the matter further. Just let me know in advance if a similar situation occurs next time."
He stood up, walked around the duty desk to Lin Feng, patted him on the shoulder, and spoke with a hint of concern:
"Go back to your bed and get some rest."
Lin Feng agreed and was about to take a step when Su Wan suddenly added:
"Dr. Xue, it's fine to take care of him, but don't be too 'careful'."
"Especially those extra services like massages and physical therapy, let's avoid them if possible."
Dr. Xue's smile froze for a moment. He subconsciously avoided Su Wan's gaze, adjusted his glasses, and coughed lightly, "Understood."
Su Wan smiled with satisfaction, then winked at Lin Feng quickly, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Lin Feng remained outwardly calm, but inwardly he sighed silently.
Sure enough, with their wives by their side, some men's happiness is destined to be nipped in the bud.
He resignedly turned his gaze away and walked towards the ward.
........................
At 5:55 p.m., footsteps were heard in the corridor, followed by the door being pushed open a crack.
Xiaoya poked half her head in, her almond-shaped eyes curving upwards, the crackle on her cheek faintly visible in the light.
"Mr. Lin, Mr. Wasim, today's role-playing time is about to end. Dr. Xue asked me to invite you downstairs."
The two got up, tidied themselves up, and followed Xiaoya out of the ward.
At the end of the corridor, Xiao Li pushed open the door of another ward and walked out, smiling at the two of them.
When I went down to the lobby on the first floor, Dr. Xue was already standing next to the duty desk waiting for me.
Dr. Xue stepped forward, his gaze sweeping back and forth between Lin Feng and Wasim:
"Did you two have a pleasant experience at the psychiatric clinic today?"
Wasim spoke first: "Enjoyable, enjoyable, especially enjoyable."
Xiao Li and Xiao Ya smiled slightly upon hearing this.
Dr. Xue coughed lightly and lowered his voice:
"Um... if there's another chance tomorrow... you're welcome to come to the psychiatric ward again."
Wasim shrugged and spread his hands:
"I'd love to, but the role is randomly drawn. Whether I'm a patient, a cleaner, or something else tomorrow depends entirely on luck."
A hint of disappointment flashed across Dr. Xue's face, but she quickly put on a professional smile again:
"It's okay, it's okay, let it be. You've worked hard today, go home and get some rest."
As he spoke, he pulled two neatly folded slips of paper from his pocket and slipped them into Lin Feng's and Wasim's hands respectively:
"This is a set of acupoint charts for the neck and shoulders used in physiotherapy. Take it home and take a look. You can relieve fatigue by massaging these points yourself regularly."
Lin Feng glanced down at the note, put it in his pocket, thanked him, and walked out of the psychiatric ward with Wasim.
When I arrived at the cafeteria entrance, there were already a few people standing there, all waiting for their roommates.
Wasim pulled out half a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, took one out and put it in his mouth, then handed one to Lin Feng.
Lin Feng waved his hand, not taking it, so Vassim lit it himself, squinting as he exhaled a puff of smoke.
Soon, a tall figure walked over from the side path.
It's Evelyn.
Her security guard uniform was spotless, and there wasn't a single scratch or sign of distress on her body.
Lin Feng glanced at her and his gaze fell on the leaf badge on her chest—the S-level rating was prominently displayed.
At the same time, Evelyn glanced at the leaf tokens on their chests, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes:
"Wow, Grade A? You two spent a day as patients in the psychiatric ward and still managed to get Grade A without any damage. You're something else."
