Chapter 283 - 281: Good Luck on Your Blind Date
Chapter 283 - 281: Good Luck on Your Blind Date
The two of them didn’t talk for long. Mia Grant was in a hurry to do some shopping, and Silas Grant could hear the urgency in her voice. He gave her a couple of quick reminders before hanging up.
Simon Adler looked up, taking in Silas Grant’s reaction.
"You two aren’t planning to spend the Spring Festival together this year?"
"Yeah." Silas Grant put his phone down. "I can’t make the time."
Simon Adler nodded. "That’s true. You’re busy with the old gentleman’s funeral."
The funeral fell right during the Spring Festival. At this rate, it looked like neither Silas Grant nor Hayes Hughes would be able to go home.
Mia Grant hadn’t expected to be so popular. With the Spring Festival approaching, she had received invitations from many people.
She certainly didn’t need to worry about having nowhere to go.
Of course, she hadn’t even considered that issue this year.
After politely declining old Mr. Donovan’s invitation, Mia Grant walked out of the mall, bags in hand.
That was when Ian Sinclair appeared.
He suddenly popped up from behind and snatched the paper bag from her hand, startling Mia Grant.
When she turned and saw it was him, she was both surprised and delighted. "What are you doing here? For a second, I thought muggers were getting this brazen."
Ian Sinclair held out his hand to her. "Give me the others, too."
Mia Grant glanced down at her bags. "It’s fine, I can manage. You can just take those."
Ian Sinclair ignored her and simply snatched the bags from her other hand as well.
She had bought quite a lot of things.
She had purchased three large bags of groceries at the supermarket and had also bought clothes and shoes.
Just from the walk down from the upper floors, the handles of the bags had already left red marks on both her hands.
Seeing this, Ian Sinclair did his best to hold all the shopping bags in one hand, then took her purse and clamped it between his teeth.
Before Mia Grant could react, he took her hand and guided her to the side.
They were right by the entrance, with people bustling in and out, so it was easy to get bumped into.
He couldn’t speak, so he could only give her a look, signaling her to stay put.
He gently rubbed her hand, the look in his eyes seeming to chide her for coming out alone instead of calling him.
A passerby walked past them, unable to hide her envy at the sight. "Now look at her boyfriend!"
Hearing that, Mia Grant smiled and pulled her hand back. She then took the purse from his mouth. "See? I’m fine."
"How did you know I was here? Are you spying on me?" Mia Grant asked casually, slinging the purse over her shoulder.
Ian Sinclair froze, thinking she was angry, and hastily explained, "Not spying... protecting. I just had two bodyguards follow you. You’re running around all by yourself, so I was worried something might happen."
Mia Grant nodded. Of course, she already knew.
"So, you just came to carry my bags? Or did you need me for something else?"
"Isn’t carrying your bags enough?"
As they walked outside, Ian Sinclair loaded the bags into the car.
He wasn’t as meticulous and mature as Felix Sinclair; he usually never even bothered to organize his own things. Yet here he was, patiently arranging Mia Grant’s purchases in the trunk, stacking everything neatly.
"Isn’t this what boyfriends are for? If I can’t even be useful for something like this, then what’s the point of keeping me around?"
The puppy muttered as he worked, "Weren’t you at the resort? Did you need something from there? If you need anything in the future, just call or send me a message. I’ll bring it to you."
"No, that’s not it. I’m spending the Spring Festival with the Sinclair family this year, so I spontaneously decided to come out and buy a few things."
"Aren’t you busy today? I’m surprised you have time to be out and about. You must have a lot of guests at home lately, right?"
"Yeah." Ian Sinclair closed the trunk and couldn’t help but sigh at the mention of it. "With him not at home, I’m the one taking all the fire."
The "him" he was referring to was, of course, Felix Sinclair.
He still hadn’t returned from abroad.
If he hadn’t been maintaining regular contact with his family, Mia Grant might have thought he’d been tricked into going abroad to have his kidneys harvested.
"You don’t seem like the type to let yourself be bullied."
"They’re definitely long-winded, but I can handle everything else. But... I’m at that age where they start pushing you to get married." The puppy shot her a casual but meaningful glance.
Mia Grant crossed her arms, her smile unwavering. "You’re not even twenty yet."
’Since when is that an age to be pressured into marriage?’
"Well, it’s because you got engaged to him first. With my older brother spoken for, they think I’m lagging behind because I don’t have a girlfriend yet. They all want to introduce me to someone."
"Is that so?"
Ian Sinclair walked over and opened the passenger-side door. "Yup. I might have to start going on blind dates after the new year."
Mia Grant nodded. "Well, I wish you luck."
"..."
SLAM. The car door shut. Mia Grant, who had been about to get in, had to pull her foot back. She looked at him, confused.
The puppy’s lips were pressed into a tight line, and he did not look happy.
It took Mia Grant a moment to realize what was wrong. She smiled and tugged on his hand. "Then should I wish you bad luck instead?"
Ian Sinclair’s expression didn’t soften. He looked like he was fuming but didn’t dare to speak, so he could only glare at her indignantly, his eyes a powerful condemnation of her words.
"It’s just a blind date, you’ll just be going through the motions. I trust you," Mia Grant said, pulling him toward the car.
The foot traffic was heavy here, and with a face like Ian Sinclair’s, anyone who passed by couldn’t help but take a second look.
He was just too conspicuous.
Ian Sinclair had driven himself. Once they were in the car, Mia Grant had to coax him for a little while before he finally dropped the matter. "Is there anything else you need to buy?" he asked.
Mia Grant checked her list. "I still need to get some fresh flowers. You know this area well, so just find a flower shop and take me there."
’She wanted to tell him to go home, but she was afraid of upsetting him. Better to just wander around the neighborhood with him for a bit longer,’ she decided.
The two of them spent some time at a flower and pet market, where Mia Grant bought a few small koi.
"I think this is it?"
Mia Grant took out her keys. She knocked first, and only after confirming there was no response did she unlock the door and go inside.
Ian Sinclair followed silently behind her, carrying the bags.
A housekeeper came to clean every day, so the apartment was spotless.
It wasn’t as cold and empty as Mia Grant had imagined. The apartment was decorated in a warm color palette, and the housekeeper had already put up decorations in advance.
New Year’s decorations and couplets had already been put up. The refrigerator was also stocked full of groceries.
After finally clearing some space, it took a monumental effort for Mia Grant to cram the groceries she’d bought inside.
"Might as well just buy another refrigerator," Ian Sinclair suggested from the sidelines.
Mia Grant shot him a look. "You sound like some nouveau riche."
"Well, you’re going to be living here anyway. You could use two refrigerators."
"I don’t need one," Mia Grant said as she organized. "I just saw there’s a mini-fridge in the bedroom. If worse comes to worst, I can use that one."
Ian Sinclair nodded. He glanced around and asked, "Are you staying here tonight?"
"Probably." She’d been shopping all afternoon and was tired. She didn’t feel like going back to the resort.
’What’s the difference where I sleep, anyway?’
Ian Sinclair prowled through every room as if inspecting his territory. "Are you sure you’ll be okay by yourself? This place is huge. Won’t you be scared all alone?"
"What if something happens in the middle of the night?"
"Or... I could stay and keep you company?"
