Chapter 930 - 739: Conversation

Chapter 930 - 739: Conversation

"They’re watching very closely, I don’t have time." Ushijima answered softly, "I just came back from Ueno. He was indeed injured, but not seriously. I can’t figure out how he managed to boast about fighting ninety people alone; maybe he was on drugs?"

"On drugs? Any clues you can find from that?"

"I have no idea," Ushijima said. "I’ve only been here for less than two days. It’s already tough to blend into their circle, can’t just ask about everything, right?"

"You idiot, is this how you talk to your predecessor?" Another voice scolded angrily, but soon, the original caller’s tone softened, "Don’t blame Ushijima-kun. There’s pressure in these matters... Ushijima, don’t rush. Getting any dirt on the Huaizhi Gang is a major success. You need to quickly get close to that guy Huai. You’re good with words, right?"

"Yes, I understand. I won’t let down the Iron King Party’s reputation!" Ushijima solemnly vowed, nodding and bowing. After hanging up, his smile slowly faded.

After years of struggling for the gang, they threw him out as an undercover agent just because he’s a hybrid.

Damn it, the superiors don’t see me as a person. Maybe I should just make some money and run...

But soon, he quashed that thought. Betraying the Iron King Party? I’d be sunk in Kyoto Bay encased in cement before even escaping Kyoto.

This has to be done, no matter what.

If exposed...

He shivered, pulled up his pants, and cursed inwardly, "Damn it, they’re all bastards..."

Ushijima’s actions paused when he realized someone was standing behind him. Short-haired and graying, it was Takase from the Huaizhi Gang.

Takase was looking at him skeptically.

He instinctively shivered and quickly bowed in greeting, hearing Takase wave him off, "No need for that in the restroom... You’re called Ushijima, right? Ushijima Qin?"

"Yes, yes, that’s me." Ushijima nodded, flustered.

Takase nodded casually, "Oh, someone was just looking for you when you were not around. Remember to head to the leader’s office, the leader is calling for you."

"Yes!"

Ushijima’s heart instinctively raced, but he didn’t dare linger in front of Takase, quickly heading upstairs. Yet, arriving outside the leader’s door, he hesitated to enter. While pacing nervously, he heard a voice from behind the slightly ajar door.

"Is that Ushijima? The door’s not locked, come in."

Ushijima swallowed, pushed the door open, and instinctively felt relieved.

Behind the door, there weren’t any thug enforcers glaring at him with hostility. Just a simple bookshelf, a desk, and two empty chairs.

At the tea table by the door, a busy young man looked up at him, "Come inside, don’t be nervous."

Ushijima hesitated for a long moment, staring at the described hideous face, hardly believing someone in the Extreme Path could look better than even those pretty-faced Cowherds.

He couldn’t possibly be a White-named face who climbed up by pleasing the president with favors...

"Want a drink? I just bought a good bottle of liquor this morning, want to try?" The leader’s voice interrupted his thoughts, and after stammering for a while, Ushijima nodded vigorously.

Soon, a cup with half a glass of liquor was handed to him, and Huai Shi patted his shoulder, "No need to be nervous, sit down, wait for me a moment, won’t be long."

"Alright, okay."

Clutching the glass, Ushijima sat down opposite the desk. While Huai Shi examined the report handed by Takuma, Ushijima noticed a massive Raven standing on the coat rack in the corner.

It looked meticulously cared for, its feathers gleaming with a metallic sheen, its size exaggeratedly large.

The Raven glanced at him, seemingly disinterested, croaking a ’Gah--!’ Sound. Translated, it meant: Second fifth Guna!

The scope of the Buried Sacred Place and Dream Cage overlapped entirely with Huaizhi Corporation, equivalent to over sixteen hundred Ravens constantly spying with their little eyes.

Even the telephone scam company upstairs and convenience store downstairs weren’t spared.

The idea that anything might be hidden from Huai Shi was ludicrous.

Though the Ravens often fixate under the skirts of several lady accountants and attempt sharing the footage with Huai Shi, causing him both headaches and irritation...

Since the morning until now, Huai Shi hasn’t done much else but meet individually with Huaizhi Gang members and rely on Dream Cage to gauge their favorability.

Amazingly, within just a few days, over thirty people have become Huai Shi’s devotees.

Some, like Ueno, who shared criminal bonds with him and formed deep ties; others were veterans from the Fujimoto Group, loyal to Huai Shi avenging Fujimoto the day he rose to power; some were just plain-minded, doing as ordered by the boss, whomever that may be... And others recognize Huai Shi as exceptionally strong, stronger than anyone they know, yet unlike others equally strong.

No matter the reason, Huai Shi has to strengthen the ties with everyone for the future. Meanwhile, cultivating followers within the Huaizhi Gang to expand his devotees...
